Chapter 62 Chapter 48 Heading to Africa

Unfortunately, after sending such a message, the Auxiliary Brain went silent again. Meanwhile, an image of a rusty, circular gear appeared within the Auxiliary Brain\'s system.

This rusty, circular gear looked quite ordinary, with an odd shape like it was a component of something. But given how rusted it was, the part should have been unusable. Why then was it an essential item for a Drone Upgrade? And how could such a gear, which clearly came from an industrial civilization, end up being unearthed in Kenya and considered a historical artifact there?

Prior upgrades for the Drone only required accumulating enough Merit Points and having raw materials nearby; the Drone would then automatically upgrade itself without the need for any specific items. So why would a specific item be needed for the upgrade to Level 4, and why such a rusty gear? Sadly, after transmitting this piece of information, the Auxiliary Brain provided no further details, leaving Yan Fei\'s questions unanswered.

The Drone currently had just over 400 Merit Points, which meant that the next upgrade was still a long way off. Yet, he would eventually have to deal with the upgrade issue—if it genuinely required such a specific component, what would he do? So after much consideration, Yan Fei decided to go to Kenya to retrieve the rusty gear to be on the safe side; it\'s always better to be prepared.

Having set his target, Yan Fei prepared to travel to Kenya. Of course, he wouldn\'t go to Kenya alone; his Drone Avatar would certainly join him. However, Kenya was more than 5,000 kilometers away from Shanghai, beyond the direct control distance of his Drone.

But a Control Distance of five thousand kilometers still provided Yan Fei with many options. He could have the Drone advance to a point five thousand kilometers away, where it would wait at the edge of its control limit. According to his analysis using a map, the farthest control distance for his Drone should be in the territorial waters near the Maldives.

Then Yan Fei could take an airplane to Kenya. With only over three thousand kilometers from the Maldives to Kenya, it would be perfectly feasible for Yan Fei to control the Drone while flying to Kenya. As long as he had the Drone nearby, he wouldn\'t worry too much about safety issues.

Thus, Yan Fei informed Lu Pingping of his plans to travel to Africa. He put her in charge of all the company\'s affairs while he prepared his passport to head for Nairobi, Kenya\'s capital. Before leaving, he had already directed the Drone to fly at low altitude over the sea surface during the night, leaving Shanghai towards Kenya.

The Drone needed to fly to Kenya in Africa; naturally, it couldn\'t take a route overland, as radar surveillance was everywhere on land, and human activities could lead to its detection. It had to choose to fly over the sea. To reach Kenya swiftly, the Drone had to skim over the sea\'s surface. However, this route meant the Drone had to pass through the South China Sea.

The South China Sea is vast, but recently the tensions had been high, with both China\'s Navy and the US Army operating in the region. Thus, it was easy for the Drone to be detected by several forces\' radar systems. Fortunately, the Drone\'s Quantum Radar was outstanding, with a detection range of up to 500 kilometers, allowing the Drone to avoid dangerous areas in advance, without encountering any of these forces.

Because of this concern, the Drone\'s route was somewhat circuitous. Luckily, Yan Fei was fortunate, and despite taking a detour, the Drone\'s journey through the South China Sea was uneventful. However, due to the detour, by the time the Drone\'s Energy Points were nearly depleted, it had only just reached the Gulf of Thailand. Yan Fei had to park the Drone at the bottom of the sea in the Gulf of Thailand.

Then, at midnight the next day, after the data refresh, with Energy Points back to 100%, Yan Fei resumed control and directed the Drone to take off again. To avoid the heavily fortified US military bases in the Strait of Malacca with their powerful detection ability, Yan Fei circumvented the Strait, choosing instead to cross the narrow Kra Isthmus of the Malaysia Peninsula.

The Kra Isthmus, located within the boundaries of Chumphon and Pattani Provinces in Thailand, is the narrowest point in the northern part of the Malaysia Peninsula, with its tightest section being only 56 kilometers wide. At full speed, the Drone could cross this distance in less than six minutes. By spending just six minutes, it could cut down more than a thousand kilometers of travel over the sea.

It was for this reason that China had long wished to build a grand canal cutting across the Kra Isthmus, linking the two oceans, but this project had always been blocked by other countries, preventing its fruition. As a result, the tiny nation of Singapore controlled a chokepoint and, despite benefiting from China, often acted against China\'s interests, causing much resentment among the Chinese people.

Yan Fei crossed the Kra Isthmus during the local late-night hours, with the Drone carefully flying close to the ground to avoid detection, which cost a bit more time, but ensured it remained invisible to others.

Once past the Malaysia Peninsula, the Drone lowered its altitude again and flew southwest, skirting the sea surface. When its Energy Points were nearly depleted once again, the Drone finally reached the seas near the Maldives, where it concealed itself below the sea surface.

At the same time, far away in Shanghai, Yan Fei too boarded a plane, beginning his journey to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya. This journey was a long one, spanning over ten thousand kilometers and requiring 13 hours of flight time. But Yan Fei didn\'t mind; he passed the time on the plane watching movies and sleeping, which passed quickly.

Before he realized it, thirteen hours had passed, and the plane landed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi; it was now eight o\'clock in the morning local time. By the time Yan Fei checked into the hotel that Lu Pingping had booked for him, it was already eleven o\'clock in the morning. n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om

Yan Fei took a rest at the hotel, and in the afternoon, he contacted a local black guide through the hotel to start a tour around the Nairobi city area. Nairobi is a typical African city with low houses, chaotic traffic, and poor sanitary conditions. However, Chinese signs and logos of Chinese enterprises were omnipresent, indicating that China\'s enterprises have developed very well in Africa over the years and have integrated into local society.

While touring, Yan Fei pretended to tell the black guide that he saw on TV that the Kenya National Museum had opened, and he wanted to go take a look. Seeing the potential profit in RMB, the guide did not find it a nuisance but eagerly took Yan Fei to the National Museum.

Although it was called the National Museum, it was actually quite simple, just a three-story ordinary building. The artifacts inside were exceptionally rudimentary tools representing the ancient history of Africa.

While pretending to observe the museum\'s collections, Yan Fei searched for the rusty gear and finally found it on the second floor of the museum.

Yan Fei breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing that the rusty gear was still there. However, as he closely observed the gear, he inadvertently noticed that someone was also examining it—a middle-aged Caucasian man with a big beard, whose true appearance was hidden beneath facial hair.

Seeing the Caucasian man, Yan Fei immediately felt a sense of danger. The man\'s greedy look aroused his vigilance. The rusty gear was an item he had to obtain, and he did not want others to set their sights on it.

Yan Fei pretended to admire other items and moved away from the rusty gear, then noticed that even though the Caucasian man had left the display, his peripheral vision was still fixed on the rusty gear. Yan Fei became even more certain that the man had intentions on the gear. It seemed that not only him but others had also noticed this item through the TV news.

Yan Fei thought for a while and asked the black guide to inquire whether the museum\'s items were for sale. If he could acquire the rusty gear by purchasing, he would do so by legitimate means, especially since the Caucasian man gave him a dangerous feeling.

However, the response the black guide brought back to Yan Fei was disappointing; the museum stated that the collections were national treasures and not for sale, regardless of the offer. Resigned, Yan Fei decided to obtain the rusty gear by his own means. Being far from China, without its constraints, his ideas became wildest.

To avoid any complications, Yan Fei decided to act that very night as a cultural relic thief and steal the rusty gear. To compensate for Kenya\'s loss, he would just build more hospitals and schools in the area later on. His weight loss cookies were selling like hotcakes, so spending a little money on charity in Kenya didn\'t put him under any financial strain. After all, the rusty gear was of no use to Kenya but was essential for him.

Therefore, Yan Fei kept circling the vicinity of the Kenya Museum, scouting the surrounding terrain, laying the groundwork for the night\'s operation.

But to Yan Fei\'s surprise, while he was scoping out the terrain, he also spotted the middle-aged Caucasian man lurking nearby. This man was focusing all his attention on the terrain around the museum and did not notice Yan Fei.

Yan Fei was shocked and realized he wasn\'t the only one with his sights set on the rusty gear, and their methods were similar. So he carefully avoided the Caucasian and returned to his hotel to prepare for the night\'s operation.

At 7 PM, Yan Fei switched his viewpoint to the Drone Avatar, only to find that although the drone was on standby, the data on the virtual screen had not refreshed, with less than five hundred Energy Points remaining. He was taken aback and quickly calculated the time difference, Nairobi being five hours ahead of Shanghai. Even though it was 7 PM locally in Nairobi, it was already midnight in Shanghai. Based on previous experience, the drone data should have been refreshed by now, so why wasn\'t there any response?

Yan Fei was uneasy, and a problem he had always overlooked suddenly dawned on him. The drone data refresh was at midnight, but which location\'s midnight was the standard? Shanghai\'s? New York\'s? London\'s? When it\'s midnight in Shanghai, it\'s only noon the previous day in New York, and 5 PM the previous day in London. So why does the drone data refresh at midnight in Shanghai? Could it be because his physical body was in Shanghai?

If the drone data refresh followed this principle, then now that he was in Kenya, should the drone data refresh be based on the local time there? It was 7 PM in Nairobi, so did he have to wait another five hours for the drone data to refresh?

Whilst Yan Fei considered this possibility, he was still not at ease because he had never before encountered a situation where the drone data did not refresh at the appointed time. Regardless, Yan Fei had to act tonight to retrieve the rusty gear, especially since the Caucasian man was also after it. And the man gave him a dangerous feeling; should the item fall into his hands, it likely wouldn\'t be easy to recover.
